Some patients who undergo weight loss surgery have already had a previous operation on their stomach. This is called “revisional surgery”, it is a highly specialised field that carries greater risk of complications compared to patients who are having surgery for the first time. The commonest reason for revisional surgery is a failed gastric band, but some patients have had other previous surgery such as anti-reflux surgery, or old-fashioned “stomach stapling”.
Revisional surgery is not suitable for everybody, but in the right circumstances it can be very effective, with results comparable to primary surgery. Your surgeon will discuss your individual treatment with you.
